Event Details
What better way to spend Valentine's evening than sampling artisan chocolate and painting with watercolor? In this special evening, you will be tasting six different types of artisan chocolate and using watercolor as a way to represent what you taste in each of the samples.
Like coffee or wine, cacao beans have a unique flavor depending on where they are grown, how they are fermented, roasted, and ground into the delicious treat we call chocolate. In this workshop you will learn how chocolate is made, its connection with art, taste six different artisan chocolate samples, and get to explore the taste through painting the flavor(s) you notice. Exploring the flavors in this way can help you notice more subtle flavor profiles of your food experience and remember them better afterwards.
The evening is planned as follows:
1. Welcome
2. The connection between art and chocolate
3. Primer on how artisan chocolate is made
4. Sample chocolate bars and paint the flavors
5. Conclude
Supply List:
For most watercolor classes, participants bring their own paint supplies (e.g. watercolor paint, paper, brushes, rag, and a water dish). However, if you are new to watercolor, the Watercolor Art Society of Houston (where this will be hosted) will have some community paint you may use. You may also contact the instructor a few days in advance to order your own personal kit ($15) you can take home.
Class fee is $50/person (WAS-H members receive $10 discount). All chocolate samples and a tasting board will be provided as part of the class. Register at https://watercolorhouston.org/event-5034455.
