American Legion Post 490 is the largest post membership in Texas. General Information
The American Legion South Houston Post 490 is located across from the main entrance to Ellington Field, south of Houston, Texas. Post 490 is in the 22nd District, 2nd Division, Department of Texas. The Post Commander for 2016-2017 is John Cronin
General Membership Meetings are held on the second Wednesday of each month at 7:00 P.M. The Board of Trustees meet on the first Wednesday of each month at 6:00 P.M., the Executive Committee at 7:00 P.M.
The Post and its activities are supported by the Auxiliary Unit 490. The Post sponsors the Sons of The American Legion Squadron 490 and The American Legion Riders.
Children and Youth
Through our Annual Golf Tournament we sponsor five American Legion Baseball Teams in the area, sponsor elementary schools in the South Houston community and give school awards to elementary, middle, and high school students throughout the area. We sponsor boys to Boys State, conduct Oratorical Contests, and award annual scholarships to Post members and their dependents.
Our Community
We provide gifts to underprivileged children of veterans and meals to needy families during the holidays. We provide funds to the Special Olympics, South Houston Community Center, needy school children in the area, Jaycees of Clear Lake, the USO at Ellington and the Shriners.
