Description

Originally we were the Greater Houston Area PHC, which was shortened to Houston Area PHC, and finally to HPHC. Monte was Pres. for 2 yrs. and was succeeded by Sue Wilkinson 2 yrs, Jeff Frazier 5 yrs, Rusty Pardue 3 yrs, Suzanne Calhoun 3 yrs, Walt Tomlinson 1yr, and Charlie Bukowski 1 yr. Our main event of the year, Mudbug Ball (MBB for short) was first held in 2002. Through last year, total donations from this one annual event total approximately $100,000. Organizations benefitting include Jerry's Kids,Texas Children's Hospital, Ronald McDonald House, Citizens for Animal Protection (CAPs), The DeGeorge House, YES Prep Academy, and The Sunshine Kids. Other endeavors of the club include Galveston beach cleanups, road cleanups, Race for the Cure, donations to the Houston Zoo, Save the Manatee, Dolphin Rescue, Special Pals, Smiling Dog Farm, and others. Our Toys for Tots donations through the years must add up in the tens of thousands of dollars. We have also been involved in the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure for several years. We have also adopted Child Advocates as one of favorite local charities. Parades? We've done many! St. Patty's, Mardi Gras, Pardi Gras, and Christmas. Two of HPHC's members have been on stage with Buffett, one playing guitar, the other dancing. (different instances) Houston PHC spawned two additional Parrot Head Clubs, Galveston Bay Parrothead Club (GBPHC) and 5 O'Clock Phlock.
