Receive an overview of what's involved in providing foster care or adopting. A detailed explanation including what types of children (ethnicity, age, special needs) are readily available for adoption, the general criteria of the approval process, legal issues that commonly occur, how you can adopt without any fees, and support you can expect to get from the State of Texas and your agency. Discuss the length of time it takes to get through the process to be able to take custody of a child. Also learn how single parents, members of the LGBT community, seniors and others who might think they are excluded from foster care and/or adoption, can adopt. Simone Swenson is the director of the Sans Pareil Center for Children and Family Services which was established in March of 2010. She has worked in this field since 1999.
