Are you shopping for a new desktop computer? Here's your chance to build your own, learn how to upgrade it in the future and hopefully extend its life. Learn how a current generation PC works, how to assemble your own PC, and discuss some of the pitfalls of buying from manufacturers. Hands-on assistance is provided to help you through the process. Name brand parts are purchased at wholesale prices to insure future upgradability. Discuss the Local Bus, the Main Bus, different types of RAM memory, the BIOS and how it works with the OS and motherboard. On Monday order the parts on Saturday build your system. NOTE: An updated price list will be distributed at class. You may call the instructor to receive a current price list prior to class. Prior enrollment in 8001, 8003 and 8006 (or equivalent knowledge) is recommended. Neal Nations has been an instructor at LLU since 1995 and has taught several computer classes.
