ASL is a visual/gestural language developed by American deaf people and is part of their culture. In Level I, learn basic vocabulary and sentence structure at the conversational level. ASL is the third most common language in America, used by more than half a million deaf people and many more that interact with them. Terold Gallien (MS, Deaf Studies/Deaf Education, Lamar U, 2001) has expertise in multicultural sensitivity and interpersonal communication in culturally diverse settings. He is an experienced counselor in the combined fields of education, public health, and rehabilitation.
