Do you have an idea for a children's book or would you like to learn about stories that are ripe for illustrations? Learn how to take your idea and get it ready to submit to a publisher. During this class complete an entire illustration project on a short storybook text. Learn how to: visualize words so your pictures tell the story, choose the form your illustrations will take (e.g., bordered or vignette), utilize drawing techniques to attract an audience, and create a dummy book for a publisher. Students are encouraged to bring their own ideas that will be discussed during a creative brainstorming session. Also discuss copyright laws and how to talk to your printer. NOTE: You don't need to know how to draw to benefit from this class. Jackie Halliburton has taught high school art including beginning through advanced drawing. She was director of the illustration department for Sonat, an offshore oil company, and Danze & Davis Architects.
